When I was very much younger,I heard the story of how Jesus cursed the Fig tree and this left me to wonder for a long time ( until I got the understanding) why Jesus did such a thing.
The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. Mark 11:12-14 and 11:20-25
The Fig tree is a deciduous tree that can grow to a height of 6 meters. Its leaves are deeply lobed with 3 to 5 lobes; this means it has a great advantage of trapping energy from the sun to be able to produce a lot of fruits.
The Fig tree is also known to grow wild in dry and sunny areas; this means no matter the condition is even during seasonal drought, the Fig tree is expected to have fruits on it so you can imagine how Jesus felt when he wanted to eat and the fig tree was barren.
We are created to bear fruit always. God wants us to shine, to reach out to others, to help the downtrodden, to lift each other up and not tear down, to praise Him, to show His Love, to glorify Him with our lives, to be respectful, to trust Him, to believe in Him, etc
God kills what does not grow! Change your ways today, be a blessing.
What will God see when He checks you out?
